Model Form

I’m a full-time professional artist, seeking transgender and non-binary models for my painting series, ‘Liminal Forms’. This series seeks to create empathy through showing the beauty and humanity of our stories and our beings. I myself am trans masc non-binary, so you would be working with someone who respects you.

Requirements:

Over the age of 18
Trans and/or Non-Binary (at any point of your journey, medical or non-medical transition makes no difference)
Able to verbalize where you are with your identity and your relationship to it

My process involves interviewing you to learn about your context and experiences, then working to create a piece which speaks to your story while using the imagery of my own work and style. It is also good for me to know if you are comfortable with nude modelling, as part of the goal of the series is to show that our bodies deserve the same artistic elevation that cis bodies have always been shown in art. However, I would never ask you to go beyond your level of comfort, so partially or fully clothed is an option.

This is a paid gig. I pay a minimum of $40 for your time, and an additional $1/min if the session goes over 40 minutes. (I shoot reference photos for working off of later; you do not have to stand still and live model while I work.) If you are already working as a professional model, we can negotiate higher rates.

I am local to Santa Fe, New Mexico, but travel quite a bit for work. Check the front page of my website for a list of upcoming conventions I’m working— if you’re in one of the cities listed, will be attending the convention, or might be located conveniently on the route of my drive to the con, we might be able to work something out.

(Please do not take it personally if I don’t have work for you! I am only one person and can only produce so many paintings a year, and have to consider a wide range of variables to make sure I take on the right paintings. This usually has nothing to do with your physical appearance or personal merit! It’s important to me to feature a wide range of backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, cultural contexts, personal stories, etc. I also have to be able to connect enough with your experiences to feel like I’m doing an earnest and genuine job of portraying your story in a way where my narrative doesn’t override your own in a way that feels dishonest. Sometimes, I’ll have someone I really want to work with, but just won’t be able to come up with the right concepts for a year or more. But rest assured that I keep all submissions on file, and will reach out things fall into place! Thank you for your patience.)

Physical Appearance

As trans people, our bodies can feel like a loaded topic, which is understandable. However, given that I am working in a visual medium, it's important for me to know what you look like! A link to a photo is ideal, so that I can have an idea of basic traits like height, weight, skintone, hairstyle, how you present, etc.

If you are unsure where you rest here, I suggest you settle for what you -know- you are okay with, rather than using this as an opportunity to push your comfort level. I will never force a model into a situation if they decide last minute that they aren't comfortable modelling unclothed, but if having the figure unclothed is important to the concept for the painting, then I may have to cancel the session if you change your mind leading up to the shoot. Please note that indicating you're fine with full or partial nudity in the piece doesn't automatically mean we'll use that option for the piece. It just gives me more options to work with in what forms the painting may take and what visuals we are able to arrive at.

Rights Disclaimer

Since you may not be familiar with modelling, this field is to ensure that you understand that you are being hired for your time as a model, as well as granting me the right to use the resulting images and your likeness to create a painting. Though I will always try to act in ways which respect you and your dignity, you accept and understand that I have full image rights to the resulting painting(s), including reproduction rights so that I can produce prints and other reproductions within the spirit of the project. This is not a commission (unless we have agreed to specifically approach it as such), so you will not receive the original painting unless you purchase it yourself, though you are welcome to do so when it is listed for sale. A single painting can take anywhere from 12 to over 100 hours, which is time and income I don't get back if you decide you don't want your artistic representation out there in the public. As such, if you change your mind and want me to remove your piece from the series and cease displaying it, you would have to purchase rights in full. In the interest of protecting both of us, you are entitled to that right, at costs based on the industry standard.
