Life Update - December 2018 (MFF Report)
A lot has happened in the month and a half since my last life update post, and especially in the last two weeks! Let's get right in to it.

In late 2016, when the shock of the election was still fresh, I tried to start drafting a blog post entitled "Art and All of This”. I thought a lot about what I would want to say, to unpack the relationship between my life and my art, and how I couldn’t avoid the ways the goings-on of the world were going to affect my artwork. There’s an oft-expressed idea that art and entertainment shouldn’t get political. That it exists to entertain and provide a positive escape.
I assume this comes from people who have a choice as to whether they are affected by politics or not— many people do not get that choice.
I do not get that choice.
The people my paintings are primarily about do not get that choice.

We left home on October 7th to drive to Austin for my surgery the next day. We then spent a week in my family home while I recovered before driving back to Santa Fe. We arrived around midnight, slept for about 3 hours, then drove to the airport in Albuquerque to fly to Illuxcon in Reading, PA. We only got back a couple of nights ago, and woke up Tuesday morning to see our home transformed into a new autumnal world to explore.
But let's catch up a little.

I've been working since last November to get a hysto on the books, and after overcoming many barriers with navigating insurance and other things, I've finally got a date set in early October!
So, to help cover the cost of the surgery that insurance doesn't cover, I'm running a big sale in my store on everything from prints to originals! We've already raised about $330 through streaming, but we need to hit at least $1077 to fund the total expenses. My partner, Jonathan Vair Duncan, also has a sale going on in his store, if you'd prefer something from there!

We've been in Santa Fe for nearly three months now. A lot of settling in has happened since our last update, of finding our footing and our flow. But even still, there are things to finish tuning up around the house, which is both time consuming and rewarding.

It's been a long while in the works, but we've made it home for the first time.
The last time I did a life update post, I spoke about my partner and I's decision to move to Santa Fe and the most immediate tasks on that horizon. Since then, we got through the long five weeks apart and the emotional struggles associated with that, and plenty more since then.
