Older Artwork
I’ve been drawing for as long as I could hold a crayon, and was fortunate enough to have parents who supported my artistic pursuits. From my teens through until after college, I went back and forth between digital and traditional painting, but I worked primarily in digital during college and in the years following. However, starting around 2014 I started dabbling in oil painting for the first time, and found I really loved the medium and was excited by the way it interacted with light, despite the significant learning curve ahead of me to become fluent in it. Over the next few years, I arrived at the decision to transition from being a primarily digital painter to a traditional one, starting with my personal work, which is what is shared on this page.
The various bodies of artwork on this page span from 2015 to 2023, and represent what I consider the first chapter of my career. Nearly all of it was painted traditionally, with the notable exception of “Holding Back Birds”, which in some ways was the painting that pushed me to go fully traditional because of the strength of response it received.
Liminal Forms
All through art history, the human form has been an embodiment of beauty and expression. But our society’s modern relationship to trans and non-binary bodies is always focused on either fetishizing or reviling them, dismissing us as somehow gross or unnatural.
I seek to create artwork which breaks down those stigmas and makes these experiences more immediate to people. Each painting in the series focuses on an experience which many people may be able to relate to, such as the suffocating nature of anxiety or the euphoria of being at peace with oneself. When viewed through the lens of a trans context, however, these experiences become magnified in their intensity.
Ultimately, these are all human experiences; while the context and pushback that comes from being trans may be unique, to view our lives and experiences as something alien would be a disservice to our essential humanity. Through these windows into ourselves and others, I hope to create empathy through our struggles, our triumphs, and our beauty.

Mixed Media Minis
Paintings done in a mixture of watercolor, gouache, colored pencil, and occasionally ink or pigment. These are all 2.5” x 3.5”— roughly the size of a credit card! Most of these start off as simple abstracts, and the subject matter is inspired by what I can envision in response to those abstract colors and shapes.
