Dusklight Raven
6" x 8" oil on panel. I'd had this abstract panel in mind for some sort of raven portrait for ages, and now I've finally had the time to get around to it. There are some subtle blue interference hues that show up in the background as well-- so it has a bit of a shimmer from certain angles here and there in person.
I kept this one balanced between strictly realism-based color/lighting and something a bit more mystical-- A lot of this painting was essentially a sort of embellished study where I shifted the colors to match the palette already in the background. (You can find the original reference photo here, which is a Creative Commons photo by Ingrid Taylar. I'm so grateful for photographers who mark their works as available for free adaptation!)
I'm still learning all the different types of feathers on these birds, their textures and placement-- even just on the head there is a wide variety!
The original painting has sold, but regular luster prints as well as radiant white aluminum prints are available in the store. Remember to join my Patreon if you’d like first chance at new originals like this in the future.
